The dream of a wireless world has always been in Igor Spinella’s mind, since he read his first book about the wonderful ideas of Nikola Tesla. Many years later, a messy desk full of tangled cables sparked his quest for a new way to transfer energy. With a very out-of-the-box approach to the problem, given that the whole world had decades ago opted for inductive and resonant coupling, he tried and succeeded using capacitive coupling . However, the wireless market is hard, as many players must adopt the technology to achieve a worldwide success. Thus, he decided to recycle this huge amount of research activity on to an easier market, the AC/DC power conversion market, giving birth to the smallest, high power density universal AC/DC adapter, a one-to-one substitution of an existing, ubiquitous product, with a $50B market. The development of a disruptive technology usually takes more than 10 years; in half the time, Eggtronic was able to turn a great intuition into an extinctive technology with endless final applications. By 2018, working demos of the capacitive technology were presented at CES, astonishing the most important consumer electronics companies and retail distributors in the world.
