Luca Mezzo

Global Composites Expert - Business Experts Network (BEN)

Italian, 45 years old, Luca took a degree in Polymer Chemistry in Turin.  After that, he took an internship in Bio-molecular Genetics at the University of Michigan (USA).

Since 1998 his career has been associated with advanced composite materials and nano-technologies.

He worked as a Business Unit Manager for FTS, a small Italian company operative in manufacturing carbon and Kevlar textiles.

In 2006 he joined Nanocyl, an innovative Belgian startup, where he worked as R&D and Business Development Manager. Nowadays, Nanocyl is the world largest producer of carbon nano-tubes.

He coordinated a large European Funded project called Inteltex. His mission was to produce fibres capable of self-detecting temperature increases or the presence of dangerous gases and liquids.

Thanks to his work in Nanocyl, Safran (one of the largest Tier-1 aerospace companies) asked him to join as a Team Leader. The goal was to develop the first booster engine in carbon composite & bring such booster up to the bench test certification.

In 2013 Luca joined Future Fibres in Valencia as CTO, which has recently been acquired by the North Sail group.

He joined Marstrom Composites (2015) in Sweden as CEO, which is a producer of composite parts for aerospace, defence and marine industries.

Since 2012 he has been a reviewer for the EU commission on the evaluation of EU funded projects in the domain of aerospace.

Since 2018 he started his own business, consulting for aerospace and automotive OEMs and Tier-1 companies based in Asia.

Luca  he is Global Composites Expert at BEN. He is also a shareholder of Uniti: a Swedish startup for the manufacturing of electric city-cars. Uniti has just recently got pre-orders exceeding €50 million (over 300k cars).
